Six months after the last summit in Tirana, high-ranking officials from Serbia, Albania, and North Macedonia gathered again in Ohrid as a part of the Open Balkans Initiative. This summit was also attended by the Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement of the European Union, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, indicating that the EU fully supports the Open Balkans Initiative, and signals that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro could soon become part of the Initiative.
Summit in Ohrid was marked by further expansion of cooperation between Serbia, Albania, and North Macedonia. This time, the initiative to connect these three Western Balkans countries is further reinforced by signing the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of Tourism for the Western Balkans, the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Culture in the Western Balkans, the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation of Tax Administrations in the Western Balkans, and Cooperation Agreement in the Western Balkans in the field of Mutual Recognition of Academic Diplomas and Scientific Titles issued in Higher Education Institutions and Other Competent Institutions.
These acts reflect recognition of tourism, education, and taxes as areas that provide important support for the further development of economic cooperation and bilateral relations between Serbia, Albania, and North Macedonia.
