Ognjen’s knowledge, experience and market-leading work in the region have been continuously recognized by The Legal 500 ever since 2019 when he was named Next Generation Lawyer. In this research cycle, for the third consecutive year, Ognjen was honored as a Leading Individual in Commercial, Corporate and M&A. The renewed accolade comes after a year of tremendous success in Ognjen’s practice and his appointment as a partner in the firm.
Ognjen has headed the firm’s Corporate/M&A practice since its early stages after he joined the legal team at Gecić Law in 2016. His leadership was instrumental in developing the practice which has since grown from strength to strength and has been ranked among the leaders by The Legal 500 for multiple years. Moreover, this year the firm was recognized for the first time by the directory for its Energy, Infrastructure & PPP practice, being named „A Firm to Watch“.
Ognjen’s career path is remarkable, with more than fifteen years of professional experience in Serbia and across the Western Balkans. In addition to the Corporate/M&A practice, Ognjen heads the firm’s Labor and Mining, Energy, Infrastructure & PPP practices. Ognjen’s experience has included pioneering work on some of the most notable projects in M&A and sectors such as energy, mining, retail, food, ICT and advertising in the region. He has been repeatedly recognized by The Legal 500 and other elite global directories and is routinely part of their list of outstanding lawyers.
Ognjen is also an active thought leader, part of a select group of lawyers from this part of Europe who is regularly quoted by reputable international media, including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, and he is highly regarded by the World Bank as a renowned legal expert and a regular contributor to their publications. He is strongly committed to contributing to diverse areas and is a regular speaker and panelist on trending legal topics. Among his numerous activities were the 2019 Winter Vivaldi Forum, the seminar titled “Who Does Gen Z Want to Work For?” in cooperation with ManpowerGroup and the 4th Serbian Public Private Partnership Conference, held under the auspices of the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Serbia. Ognjen also regularly contributes to the educational efforts of the Responsible Business Forum aimed at small and medium businesses as a participant of numerous events targeted at the group, as well as leading panel discussions at the Forum’s main annual event.
Ognjen also leads Gecić Law’s international presence by building strong partnerships within elite global legal networks TerraLex and TAG Law, Gecić Law being an exclusive member for Serbia and Montenegro.
In this year’s research, referees pointed out that Ognjen is a serious and responsible professional who “cares about our business and that we are successful – this is exceptional service, not just a good one.” Ognjen was also seen as a very dedicated lawyer who understands business processes very well.
