Jovana Veličković Joins Gecić Law as Partner and Head of Dispute Resolution

Underscoring the importance of top-notch dispute resolution in strengthening the firm’s market-leading capabilities, Gecić Law is delighted to announce that Jovana Veličković is joining the team as a partner and head of Dispute Resolution.

Jovana will continue building on the successes of the practice in complex litigation, regulatory proceedings, arbitration, and mediation, ensuring that our current and new clients benefit from the outstanding results and professional excellence of the renowned Gecić Law Dispute Resolution team.

Jovana is a seasoned lead litigator with more than a decade of experience focusing on commercial litigation with a strong track record of representing and advising eminent regional, Fortune500 and other international companies as plaintiffs and defendants in a broad array of disputes involving anything from privatization, securities, and bankruptcy law, valuation, contracts and torts, labor, advertising law, banking, real estate, and construction, to regulatory, ECHR and constitutionality matters.  Her experience is also cutting-edge in alternative dispute resolution methods, including arbitration and mediation.

Jovana has been involved in numerous high-profile cases, including representing clients in complex construction disputes on the contractor’s side, under FIDIC rules and in international investment arbitration matters, and representing the top national law school, where the Appellate Court reversed its previous decision.

Jovana holds a Ph.D. from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and is intensely active in academia, having published numerous articles on topics at the crossroads of law and economics.  She is a lecturer at the Bench & Bar Academy of the Bar Association of Serbia, Department of Civil Law (Bankruptcy Law), and a certified tutor by the Council of Europe Programme on Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP). She also led the Legal Clinic for Contracts and Torts at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law.

Jovana received her LL.B. summa cum laude from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law with a perfect grade point average.  She received numerous awards, including the four University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law Honors (St. Sava), and the Dr. Dragoljub Atanacković Fund Award for academic achievement in criminal law.  Jovana also received prestigious scholarships from the Ministry of Education, the Young Talents Fund of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and the Atanasije Stojković Fund.

She also earned her LL.M. and Ph.D. from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Law.  Her Ph.D. thesis was on the “Derivative lawsuit: company law and procedural law analysis.”
